In recent years, Ethiopia has been experiencing an unprecedented infrastructure construction boom, with intensive launch of projects such as highways, railways, affordable housing, and industrial parks, driving explosive growth in concrete demand. As an economic growth engine in East Africa, the Ethiopian government has continuously increased investment in infrastructure. According to data from the local construction association, the annual growth rate of concrete demand in the country is expected to reach 15% during 2023-2028. However, the problems of insufficient production capacity and outdated technology of local concrete batching plants have become increasingly prominent, making efficient and stable large-scale concrete batching plants a core demand in the market. Recently, Ethiopian customers made a special trip to visit our factory for on-site inspection. After multiple rounds of technical verification and production capacity testing, they formally signed a procurement contract for a 120m³/h concrete batching plant, marking the successful entry of our equipment into Ethiopia’s high-end infrastructure market.
Ethiopia is one of the fastest-growing economies in Africa, with its government actively advancing a “Ten-Year Development Plan,” leading to booming infrastructure construction. This presents unprecedented opportunities and challenges for the concrete industry.
Ethiopia’s currently focused “Growth and Transformation Plan” includes a number of large-scale projects such as cross-regional highways, Addis Ababa urban light rail extension lines, and cross-border railways. These projects are characterized by large project scale, tight construction schedules, and high standards for concrete quality. Traditional small-scale batching plants (production capacity ≤ 60m³/h) have problems such as low efficiency, poor batching accuracy, and high failure rates, which can no longer meet the needs of large-scale construction. Large-scale batching plants with a production capacity of 120m³/h and above have become designated procurement equipment for such projects.
Some construction areas in Ethiopia are located in plateau regions (with an average altitude of 2500 meters), and the power supply is unstable, while the sand and gravel raw materials have high impurity content. This puts forward special requirements for the plateau adaptability, energy compatibility, and raw material adaptability of batching plants. In addition, the operation level of local technical workers is limited, so the equipment must also be easy to operate and have low maintenance costs to ensure long-term stable operation.
At present, the production capacity of local batching plants in Ethiopia can only meet 30% of the market demand, and most of the demand relies on imports. Moreover, most of the existing imported equipment has problems such as outdated technology and slow after-sales response. Batching plants with efficient production capacity, stable performance, and localized services can quickly seize market share and create higher investment returns for customers.
The 120m³/h plant we recommended to our Ethiopian client is designed with local climate, raw materials, and operational practices in mind. It is a star product that combines efficiency, stability, and intelligence.
Core Mixer: Equipped with a JS2000 forced twin-shaft mixer. It provides intense, homogeneous mixing, can complete a mixing cycle in 60 seconds, and ensures consistent, high-strength concrete.
This batching plant adopts a twin-shaft forced mixer with a mixing volume of 4.5m³ and a mixing cycle of ≤ 24 seconds, with an actual production capacity of up to 120m³/h. It can meet the continuous construction needs of large-scale projects such as highways, bridges, and high-rise buildings. The equipment is equipped with an intelligent batching system, and the batching accuracy of aggregates, cement, fly ash, water, and admixtures is controlled within ±1%, ensuring uniform and stable concrete strength, which complies with Ethiopia’s construction industry standards (ES) and international standards (ASTM).
Mixing Host: Adopts high-strength wear-resistant liners and blades with a service life of up to 8000 hours, which is suitable for the working conditions of high impurity content in local sand and gravel raw materials in Ethiopia, reducing equipment wear. The host has excellent sealing performance, effectively preventing dust leakage and meeting environmental protection requirements.
Main Structure: The entire plant uses a high-strength steel structure design, undergoes rigorous stress calculation and anti-corrosion treatment (e.g., shot blasting and high-performance anti-rust paint), enabling it to withstand Ethiopia’s variable climate.
Precision Batching System: Features independent precision batching scales for cement, water, additives, and aggregates. Batching accuracy is within ±1%, guaranteeing precise mix proportions from the start.
Power System: Equipped with Weichai/Yuchai National III engine with a power of 220kW, which is optimized and adjusted for plateau environments, ensuring stable power output and a fuel consumption as low as 28L/h. At the same time, it supports dual-energy drive (diesel and electricity) to cope with unstable local power supply and ensure uninterrupted construction.
Screw Conveyors: Large-diameter, sealed screw conveyors for cement and fly ash ensure high-efficiency transportation with no dust leakage, reducing material waste.
Control System: Equipped with a PLC intelligent control system, supporting Chinese and English operation interfaces, which is simple and easy to understand, adapting to the operating habits of local technical workers. It can realize automatic control of the entire process of automatic batching, mixing, and discharging.
Self-Diagnostics: The system features automatic alarm and fault diagnosis functions, allowing for quick problem identification. This significantly reduces maintenance difficulty and downtime and is ideal for training local technicians.
Modular Design: The modular design facilitates transportation, installation, and future expansion, effectively reducing the client’s initial installation cost and time.
Dust & Noise Control: The plant is equipped with a comprehensive pulse jet dust collection system and sealed structures to effectively control dust pollution. Key components are treated for noise reduction, meeting environmental standards.
